He was known by Belizeans as a visionary and inspirational leader in Belize's tourism industry, and was one of the chief advisers of the Belize Tourism Industry Association, the country’s tourism watchdog he helped found in 1985. At the time of his death, Tonti was Chief Executive Officer of Cahal Pech Village Resort and Belize Media Group(BMG), an internet news company (Breakingbelizenews.com) which he founded. BMG is considered one of the most widely read news sites in Belize.
